Energy resource: Junk mail

Post by Magnus »

When I was doing the Duke O Edinburgh?s Award scheme at school (about 17 yrs ago) I did some gardening for some of the elderly residents, who lived close by. There was one old woman who had a small stove which she used to cook on and keep herself warm in the winter. A significant proportion of her fuel was derived from junk mail.

There is something rather appealing to me about utilising this resource and it has got me thinking about stove design and building a stove. I like the simplicity of the Kelly kettle and the Winiarski Rocket Stove. Has anyone built the stove?

Does anyone have some design ideas for a small junk-mail burning stove?

We covered the design of the Rocket stove on my course - it's said to be very good. FOr burning paper, I guess it wold be good to wet it and use one of those "briquette making" devices (you can buy them at CAT, and elsewhere I assume), to stop it burning up too fast.
