These people will soon become the very "gangs" you mention, given the survival circumstances anyone would.Lord Beria3 wrote:No excuse for shoplifting in this era of plenty... there are people on petty crimes and drug crimes who shouldn't be in prison... but being realistic, in the event of a collapse, there only skill once the prisons emptied would be to use violence and terror against the survivors.

No, I personally wouldn't murder or harm anybody to steal food - and most people are similar. These people will soon become the very "gangs" you mention, given the survival circumstances anyone would.

Hunger can/has driven people to do such things.Lord Beria3 wrote:No, I personally wouldn't murder or harm anybody to steal food - and most people are similar. These people will soon become the very "gangs" you mention, given the survival circumstances anyone would.

If you have not eaten for a couple of days your hunger and food is the only thing you will be able to think about. In situations of extreme hunger the frontal lobes of the brain shut down to conserve energy, shedding all your inhibitions leaving behind only your baser instincts and the need to feed. Then people suddenly find ideas such as cannibalism quite attractive. As people like to justify there actions post facto if that happens enough cannibalism could become an accepted part of the culture.
Denying criminals food will come naturally when common law abiding people are hungry.
