George Osborne to talk of public spending 'refocus'

What can we do to change the minds of decision makers and people in general to actually do something about preparing for the forthcoming economic/energy crises (the ones after this one!)?

These are intelligent, informed people. They know alright, but what can they do about it? It is the man-in-the-street - or woman-in-the-shoe-shop - who refuses to accept the constraints on aspirations.

As a woman who frequently finds herself in a shoe-shop, I resent that last comment. I am quite capable of understanding constraints, in that if the said shoe-shop has nothing in a size 8, I go to another shop :)

What I want to know is, who is this man in the street, and why isn't he in a bike-shop or something?

I saw him just yesterday (twice, in fact): he was riding around here in York, on a marvellous electric trike. He had a flat 'at on and all. Would love to post a pic but I just wasn't fast enough with my camera.

Well, I was going to put "man-in-the-pub" but the last time I saw him he was past caring. In fact I was thinking of writing a novel about him, called Collapse.
