UK scientists develop cheap energy-generating window

Scientists from the University of Leicester are developing an innovative cheap energy-generating window designed to reduce power usage.

Researchers at the institution are working with Norwegian-based company EnSol AS to develop the solar cell technology, which can be coated as a thin film on windows to produce power.

Nice for offices that sometimes over-heat in the sun, useless for homes because they'd intercept the infra-red which would otherwise be useful passive solar heating.

If they could develop a selective coating to absorb only UV it would be useful for homes. Fabrics colours wouldn't degrade so much.
