BAA said on Thursday it hoped to demolish the existing 50-year-old Terminal 2 and office buildings and develop a modern facility capable of handling up to 30 million passengers.
That's another billion pounds allocated to the Great White Elephant then.

Yeah... there are lots of crazy things in the world but I think the single craziest is the programme of airport expansion the government seems set on.

This is now broadly understood by almost everyone I meet. But it has had no impact whatever on their behaviour. When I challenge my friends about their planned weekend in Rome or their holiday in Florida, they respond with a strange, distant smile and avert their eyes. They just want to enjoy themselves. Who am I to spoil their fun? The moral dissonance is deafening.
