#FreedomFlotilla

What can we do to change the minds of decision makers and people in general to actually do something about preparing for the forthcoming economic/energy crises (the ones after this one!)?

When Russia blockaded Berlin the USA and UK and others organised a blockade-busting airlift. The wall that the Israelis have built is much bigger than the Berlin wall. Why are we not protecting the Freedom Flotilla with our navies and relieving the blockade?

(Rhetorical question - don't bother answering.)

105,000. It was only 1,800 when I signed it I think!

I wonder if this will be the fastest ever growing petition.

I know of one of the people on this flotilla. She has been allowed to make short phone calls and is ok and expects to be released in the next few days.

I expect we'll soon start to hear what really happened from those involved.

From what I understand, she wanted to make a point about the injustice of the blockade. This was one of her Facebook postings before the ship was boarded....

IF WE ARE SUCCESSFUL WITH THIS MISSION - ISRAEL WILL BE EXPOSED FOR THEIR BRUTALITY OF THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE - IF THEY STOP US - THEY WILL BE EVEN MORE EXPOSED...EITHER WAY - THEY LOSE...WE WILL KEEP TRYING TO BREAK THE SIEGE...SO SCREW THE ISRAELI TYRANISTS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS HUMANITARIAN CRISIS!...I PRAY THE NEXT TIME YOU HEAR FROM ME IS FROM GAZA..INSHALLAH!!!:

146,000.

But it's all right. Israel is going to carry out the investigation into how its soldiers were set upon by "peace" terrorists taking weapons to the sub-humans in Gaza.

Israeli spokesman on Channel 4 News last night managed to change the possibility of a Turkish warship being sent to protect the next flotilla into Turkey sending a warship to attack Israel.

146,467 now and climbing way faster than 1 per second.

ETA 146,701.

202,000

I donated to the Rachel Corrie. I want my money to go to those people.

We've been buying organic, fair trade produce from Palestine for a couple of years now and deliberately avoiding (if it's possible to know) Israeli stuff for decades.

I urge people to seek out Zaytoun produce and perhaps get their local independent shops to stock the stuff; their dates are heavenly and in fact none of their products has yet to disappoint.

209,635 and rising.

They have a new target of 300,000 since it's clear that they topped 200,000 faster than expected.

Mystery solved: flotilla cargo contents revealed!

Ouch! You wouldn't want to get attacked by a child with one of those on their back.

ETA 258,570

I've seen more signatories from Israel (pop ?) than from the UK (pop 65m).

And perhaps most poignantly, a motley collection of school books and notebooks...

And this mass tapping of keyboards will achieve what, exactly?

That comment is likely to receive angry responses, but I think it's a good point. Unless backed up with "real" action, web and Twitter campaigns don't seem to be worth a lot (see my earlier comment). On the other hard I suppose they don't do any harm.

I think Avaaz petitions are often taken seriously and have an effect.

I wonder how far the Israeli authorities would go, if they thought the world wasn't watching?

Three questions for you Vortex:

Last year you posted about the G8 protest that you attended in London, Vortex, why did you go?

Are people signing an online petition hurting you in anyway?

What is you view of the situation in Israel and the occupied territories?

I’ve nothing against Avaaz, I agree with a lot of the ideas behind their campaigns. Good luck to them.
