Korean war?

If the next Korean War kicks off then PO and cuts will be the least of our problems ...

Kim Jong-il has ordered his million-strong armed forces to “combat readiness” as tensions continued to escalate on the Korean Peninsular.

North Korea is throwing its rattle out of the pram again.

None of China, US, or South Korea wants a war.

There will be no war. Maybe a few more provocations, before the internal power struggles in the north are resolved.

The problem is the Northern regime is used to getting rewarded for violence. It is a hard habit to break. (I managed to face down my 7 year old this morning, so I am feeling positive

)

Yes indeed. In fact, there have been numerous predictions of an imminent war with Iran on these very forums. You and I both pointed out the unlikeliness of such an event. I expect the same is true of the DPRK's latest sabre-rattling.

North Korea v South Korea: Fools rush in

Both North and South Korea have begun preparations for war in a week where relations between the two countries broke down to the worst they have been since the Korean War of 1950-53. The latest confrontation came about when a South Korean navy ship was sunk by a torpedo on 26th March, killing 46 South Korean sailors.

The only problem with this article is that it seems to imply North Korea might not be responsible for sinking the warship; but if not N Korea then whom? Colonel Mustard?

(lusitania, Reichstag fire,gulf of tonkin, operation gladio etc etc ad infinitum)

Who knows who did it, but its proven quite handy for putting pressure on japan to *not* boot the yanks and their bases off of okinawa.

I don’t think anybody would bother spending time on Powerswitch if they thought the world is always obvious and black and white. I suppose I asked the question partly because I wanted to know what might have been in this journalists head.

The problem with conspiracy theories is that studying them doesn’t actually lead you anywhere; your conclusion can never be more than a suspicion. What do you do with a suspicion that Kennedy might have been done away with by jealous lovers, the CIA or the mafia? Write a novel or make a Hollywood film, perhaps? Have a good conversation in a pub?

my reply was actually to dominicj who appeared to try and denigrate anybody who didnt just obediently believe what they are told, but you're right, Theres not a lot you can do about it, but then theres not a lot I can do about historical facts that arent obviously conspiracies either, but given the choice, I'd rather know the truth (whatever that may be).

You might as well say, whats the point of studying history. If what you've studied and learnt was the consensus rather than the truth, what good is that either. So, no, I dont really know "what to do with it", but i'd rather be open to the possibilities than the often (provably so) slanted view of reality that is doled out by the mainstream media.

If one wishes to understand geopolitics then frankly, you aint gonna get a great deal of info from the mainstream.
