I get the feeling he is looking forward to a bit of cannibalism and the like.

Nah, and I am being optimistic in that we may well extinct ourselves during the collapse with all our fancy weapons systems .

If we have a future of warring tribes much like the dark ages, and all our books get used for toilet paper and destroyed, our democracies and TVs and technology disappear, we see the return of human slavery, starvation etc etc its not the worst of outcomes .

I’m not looking forward to it I like this world , I think Id make a reasonable Mongol or Viking but likely I've lived too soft , but even if I hadn’t I think the attrition in the first stages of collapse are going to be terrific even for the prepared but it will be a experience .

Overall I’m not depressed about things my plan is to free myself from ties now and enjoy the descent like a roller-coaster ride, even car crashes or disasters can be fun with the right frame of mind. No one lives forever and when you fully understand that and don’t much want to slowly get old and wither away things aren’t so bad.

For every complex problem, there is a simple answer, and it's wrong.
