I was very surprised to see it. Look also at the link in the second one. Quite an eye-opener for some teachers perhaps! Although I don't think biology teachers -like me- will get to do this stuff. It seems to be aimed at physics or technology classes.
My youngest two are 3rd and 4th form.
Older one says she definitely didn't do any of this in school.
Younger one was already asleep and has not been quizzed yet!

That's something I never thought I'd see.
Excellent.
How long has this been being taught Keela ?

I'm not sure when it was (or is going to be) introduced.
KS3 is Year 8 - 10. Older daugther is in Year 11 and did not get any of this. Younger daugther is in Year 10. I'll ask her in the morning.
So it seems it is very recent.
Perhaps it is being rolled in from Year 8, in which case younger daughter may still be on the older scheme?? It probably says something on the site about timing etc. I didn't see it.

The only date I've found is on the website (2010) but nothing about the year of its introduction in schools.
Still, it's really interesting that somebody somewhere (and the people backing the whole thing up) has decided to include this.

I wonder how enthusiastically this message will be put across by well off
teachers in a society so morbidly obsessed with having an even more ludicrously large car and more "swish family Robinson" home and possessions than your neighbour who obviously are not treying hard enough if they do not keep up in the material stakes.
Children are not slow to spot hypocrisy.
