The Wolfe minimum and the Sporer minimum happened at the beginning of the little ice age and ended the warm period from 800 ad to 1300 ad.biffvernon wrote:Ah, so with the Maunder Minimum coinciding with the middle of the 'Little Ice Age', the cold period clearly led the Minimum. So it's the Little Ice Age that caused the lack of sunspots, presumably by cooling the Sun. Stick that up your denialsphere.kenneal wrote:The Maunder Minimum coincided with the middle — and coldest part — of the Little Ice Age, during which Europe and North America, and perhaps much of the rest of the world, were subjected to bitterly cold winters. Whether there is a causal connection between low sunspot activity and cold winters is the subject of ongoing debate
The maunder minimum came in the middle of the little ice age and extended the effects started by the Wolfe and Sporer minimums.
The sun and solar radiation has been the principle driver of the climate for billions of years and still is. The global warming debate rages on and in my view is a dangerous distraction to the real problems we face in the world.

I'm not a Climate Change denier, which you would see if you read my post. especially the last sentence. I simply believe that the sun warms the earth, so major changes in solar irradience will have an effect on our climate.
The higher level of Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere now, against pre industrialisation levels, will reduce the harshness of any cold period but when we come out of any cold period the extra CO2 will exaggerate the change between warm and cold.

Ah, but I only started growing tomatoes these last 3 years.biffvernon wrote:That implies dependant events. They are probably largely independent.snow hope wrote:I would say that after 3 poor summers we are likely to get a pretty reasonable one to be honest, just working off the law of averages.
Should I give them a miss this year?

See the Mount Tambora eruption. The Year Without a Summer, in 1816, also occurred during the Dalton Minimum.
Speaking as someone who wasted 2 hours of his life last night watching the most risible Hollywood disaster movie (2012) since the last one, I can say on good authority that neutrinos are "mutating into a new kind of neutrino" in the earth's core and that is why we are all doomed.Vortex wrote:No, no. A neutrino flux from our Earth's core interacts with the Sun's hydrogen and heats it up.

That's not what I was told! My commanding officer told me that the entire planet was in imminent danger of being eaten by an enormous mutant star goat!RogerCO wrote:Speaking as someone who wasted 2 hours of his life last night watching the most risible Hollywood disaster movie (2012) since the last one, I can say on good authority that neutrinos are "mutating into a new kind of neutrino" in the earth's core and that is why we are all doomed.
