...and he says, well, what we're going to do to fight global warming is use technology and to do that we'll get all the natural gas and convert it into hydrogen and bury all the nasty stuff in old oil fields.
Okaaaaay.
That is such an efficient use of energy! Is that REALLY their plan for meeting future world energy needs? They know it isn't but the important thing is that they tell the world that they're doing something. Most of the world won't realise what a waste it is (nor would the world care!)
So I'm listening to Lord Browne on Radio 4 this morning...

Yes I heard that interview and spluttered into my mug of tea.
I also caught a fragement of a piece later (about 08:40) on the Today programme that seemed to be about possible effects of global warming, which finished with an imagined report from the future on surviving world leaders meeting about the high water line in new york state and calling for the survivours of war, famine and disease in Europe to regroup and rebuild...
Unfortunately the BBC site is rather overloaded at present so I haven't been able to check what I heard - did anyone else get this, and if so what was it about?

Lord Browne's utterings
Yes, I heard that - they were doing a 'snippets from the news in the future' montage. It began with the last of the Kilimanjaro snows melting, and I'm afraid I don't remember the rest. It was quite a compelling piece, though.
As to Lord Browne (who he?) and his utterings, yes, I'm glad I'm not the only one going 'you WHAT?' at that. Almost as good as Dubya last week saying that the biggest threat to the environment was stagnant economies, and what was required was for every country's economy to be growing.
Is it just me, or is that nuts?

No, it's nuts,

No, no it's not just you. *boggles*Almost as good as Dubya last week saying that the biggest threat to the environment was stagnant economies, and what was required was for every country's economy to be growing.

China and India certainly have growing economies, and their cities are filthy. On the other hand, ours are getting cleaner, certainly compared to how they were in the past.

Haven't we just "exported" our dirty industries (and their energy use) to these countries. In a sense, we are still the casue of this pollution (and energy use)?greenbean wrote:China and India certainly have growing economies, and their cities are filthy.
