As an example, the nineteen-sixties in figures don't have an apostrophe.

Thanks. Sorry to be a nuisance; maybe I didn't read it carefully enough but my reading of it didn't "get it".

If our great grandchildren wanted too

read 'to'

Assad was President of Syria, not Egypt. His son successfully applied for the post more recently.

curb weight a third up on the 1980 car

Lamb joints began to come from New Zealand

Hmmm? I recall NZ lamb in the early 70s?

social services themselves need to be paired back.

save us from a Britain of flat caps and rusty bicycles

But there's nowt wrong with those... :D

A good read. Like the '6'. But regardless of the extinction of estate agents and other low life, your conclusion is too optimistic and cheery! We won't get anything like adequate flow rates from switch grass, algae or tar sands...

"Long term incapacity benefits were not part of the entitlements package"

Yes they were. I worked in a benefits office in 1980. I remember them as 'DisBen', 'IVB' and 'Supp Ben'. (Disability Benefit, Invalidity Benefit and Supplementary Benefit). There were certainly long-term claims for all of those, many appropriate, such as care home residents and so on. The names of these benefits have changed several times since, but the basic design remains.

Suggest rephrase to something like

the numbers of long term benefit claimants has steadily risen, while the focus has always been on the more politically sensitive but short term unemployment headcount.

Regarding NZ lamb, I seem to remember there was a ruckus when the UK joined the 'Common Market' as we called it in 1973, because tariffs restricted our Oz / NZ meat imports. I was only 11 at the time, but my Gran was complaining about it...

Yup I remember an ad from the 1970s "Tender New Zealand lamb...still yer best meat value" said by a nice lady Kiwi as she took a joint out of the oven. The "still" bit agrees with the tariffs history.

I've updated the book to capture comments and to expand the section of what an oil field look like and why there are geological and water injection limits. Also got the then president of Egypts name right this time!
