What a waste of time sending Grasping Gordon to Copenhagen, unless, of course, his absence is used to unseat him from No 10. Sending Gordon off to the conference would put a lot of people off. How many people have any faith or belief left in Grasping Gordon? What credibility does he have left?

The only sensible thing on that list is the house insulation. This would create more green jobs on its own. Just shows the crap thinking in this government.

Surely he should be going anyway, unless it's more appropriate that another senior person in the government goes, in which case persuading him to go could harm the outcome. If he's not going and he should be, he should be thrown out of his job.

I'm with Ken on insulation.

Maybe everyone hopes Gordon will go to Copenhagen and not come back

I like the way the poll result has mirrored the available information. Nothing on there about why we need more house insulation or more green jobs, but plenty on the easiest option: "Send Gordon to Copenhagen so we can get a deal to do everything else, but we're already doing the other 2 options...well, we're planning to, hopefully, maybe, someday, but erm, look we really need a deal first because we're far too cowardly to actually stick our necks out and be amongst the first and show some proper leadership on this issue because we're too interested in getting jobs in the vested interests of the current paradigm to actually do anything else other than spout false platitudes in case we don't get those nice, well paid consultancy jobs, with nice share options and a seat on the board. Thank you for allowing us to do bugger all while we wait to be voted out of power at the next election. At least it'll give the Tories something to shout at us about and continue the illusion of a representative democracy that you all wished you lived in, but unfortunately for you (not us) you don't."

I also like this bit:

We will be importing half the amount of gas that we otherwise would

Which is apparently part of the green plan and nothing to do with the fact we don't have a choice due to declining output from the North Sea

I think the house-insulating stuff really is proceeding apace. I think (in some other thread) an awful lot of "green jobs" are tosh (exceptions being the people who do something physical, like stuff walls or put up wind-turbines). Which really only leaves Copenhagen as an option for Gord. You never know: the Danes' energy and quality-of-life achievements might inspire him to do something useful!

He probably wouldn't announce that unless he knew someone else was going as well. He wouldn't want to look even more of a pratt!!
