The Next Peak Oil meeting
Moderator: Peak Moderation
Hello fellow peak-oilers. I've been lurking for a couple of weeks (I found this site after attending the LSE event on 14 Dec), and this seemed like a good thread for my first post.
I'd be up for post-PO discussion if it's somewhere in London. I'm still in the early phase of learning about this enormous and daunting subject, so I can't bring an expert opinion to the table. Like a lot of folks here I guess I'm still trying to make sense of it all.

OK, lets start to find a date. How about Saturday 18th or 25th Feb?
Location? Does someone in London know a place we can use, where it's not impossible to drive to for those of us who are bringing stuff to show everyone, but also not too bad for trains? Can we hire a room in a pub, a church hall, or something like that? We used BedZED last summer, but I think that was ?70.

I keen to hear virtually all of the above - expecially bits on heating as I plan to replace my boiler fairly soon and get some other bits and bobs.
I also live in zone 2 london (east dulwich) which has free parking so if people want to do this at my flat then they are more than welcome. The sitting room is under reonnovation so has loads of space for practicals - and will probably have two large newly painted white walls....I also have a side garden and lots of tea making facilities - and a fridge (AAA) for beer.
Let me know...

Welcome to Powerswitch! without wishing to stray too far off topic - are you an LSE type (i.e. up on market theory etc) or from another background?caspian wrote:Hello fellow peak-oilers. OK, if we are going to do this then we need to try and organise it properly and not just through an open forum thread.
Depending on numbers I can host the event - benefits over a pub is that we have the place to ourselves, beverages can be got in at cost price as can lunch, parking available and a lot more space and examples of what can be done to a flat can be shown in situ.
Obviously, I'm getting the benefits of this so I'll provide lunch and get beverages (depending on numbers - if a lot then some will be charged back at cost). If people do want a pub then that can still be done, I'm not trying to dictate anything.
In order to organise who can do what, bring what, get numbers, times, schedules etc I think this should probably be taken off forum - please contact me on regional@powerswitch.org.uk and once I've got your email addresses I'll start a email discussion.
Late readers of thread please feel free to contact and we'lll get you involved.
Cheers
Chris

No, I'm not from an economics background. I did academic research in geophysics (rock physics to be precise), but I found the idea of working for the petroleum industry too unpleasant to contemplate. I'm now a programmer.Joe wrote:Welcome to Powerswitch! without wishing to stray too far off topic - are you an LSE type (i.e. up on market theory etc) or from another background?caspian wrote:Hello fellow peak-oilers. I can make the 18th Feb if it's somewhere in London. Chris, your suggestion sounds good to me.

OK, first organisation email has gone out with an attendance list of 11.
I don't think I've heard from Genoxy, Chris V, Ballard, who showed interest....if any of you guys, or anyone else is interested then do send an email to regional@powerswitch.org.uk and I'll get you added.

Hello all.
Number are up to 18, and my flat isn't massive so I'm going to close the book on this. It this one turns out to be a big success then we can look at doing similar ones either in other locations or again in London.
For those that have signed up, I'll try and get out the agenda for discussion agreement either later today or early next week.
Cheers for now.
