Cool . . . it seems that Peakniks have great taste in music!

Looking forward to hearing your track Isenhand, when I download it at home! I've made a fair bit of music in my time too, from folk to rock to loud thumpin' dance music!

Jethro Tull seems to be the common theme here, though. Top notch stuff!

Here's a lovely track for anyone who's interested: "Rejoice in the Sun" by Joan Baez. It was used as the theme tune to a film called "Silent Running".
Heels of children running wild, in the sun
Like a forest is your child, growing wild, in the sun
Doomed in his innocence, in the sun

Gather your children to your side, in the sun
Tell them all they love will die, tell them why, in the sun
Tell them it's not too late, for today one by one
Tell them to harvest, and rejoice - in the sun

How about this from the Turin Brakes (my darlin got it for me for xmas) :

Above the clouds
Up above the clouds, it is always a blue sky
Some will try a trick, but you just look them in the eyes
What will they do, when the money runs dry?
Where will they go, when the jet planes can't fly?

When all is said and done I will love you
When all is said and done I'll still love you

Staring out at the stars, you feel helpless and so small
Nothing but closed down bars, no one helps you when you fall
One day this world will be returning to this prime
We'll all be gone, there'll be no more roads to find
...
They Can't Buy The Sunshine
All and all it's been a blast
But fame and fortune never lasts
So, we'll take refuge in the sound
They burned our churches to the ground

But they can't buy the sunshine
They can't buy the sunshine
They can't buy the sun
But they can't stop the sunshine on the sun, the sun, the sun

We may have sold our very souls
The ghosts inside the radio
They warned us once and they told us twice:
This life's never very nice

They can't buy the sunshine
They can't buy the sunshine
They can't buy the sun
They can't stop the sunshine on the sun, the sun, the sun

The credit card skyline rises high
Crushing the sky and multiplies
They bind up souls to fill their holes
We know the one thing they don't know

But they can't buy the sunshine
They can't buy the sunshine
They can't buy the sun
But they can't stop the sunshine
They can't stop the sunshine
They can't stop the sunshine on the sun, the sun, the sun
Shine on the sun, the sun, the sun (x4)
I'd also recommend anything and everything by asian dub foundation (far too much to quote!)

Personally I think last barrel of oil standing by a little known artist called isenhand is probably about the best bit of PO music around

I?m sort of working on making a little collection of sort of PO related tracks.
Absolutely fantastic!!! I would recommend this tune!!!!

Time to get out the UV lights and spooky drapes. They're only fluorescents, don't take up much power!

What do you reckon are the prospects for parties post-peak? 8)

Rickie Lee Jones - Last Chance Texaco

James Taylor - Traffic Jam - A Kunstler theme tune, methinks

(Chorus)
Damn this traffic jam
How I hate to be late
It hurts my motor to go so slow
Damn this traffic jam
Time I get home my supper'll be cold
Damn this traffic jam

Well I left my job about 5 o'clock
It took fifteen minutes go three blocks
Just in time to stand in line
With a freeway looking like a parking lot

- Chorus -

Now I almost had a heart attack
Looking in my rear view mirror
I saw myself the next car back
Looking in the rear view mirror
'Bout to have a heart attack
I said

- Chorus -

Now when I die I don't want no coffin
I thought about it all too often
Just strap me in behind the wheel
And bury me with my automobile

- Chorus -

Damn...

Now I used to think that I was cool
Running around on fossil fuel
Until I saw what I was doing
Was driving down the road to ruin

Probably not good for mega-LAN parties, such as the one shown in this interview:

Wow, what a great thread - excellent stuff for me to follow up :D

Here's a quickie before I leave for home - rather poppy but their heart's in the right place:

Sailor - Traffic Jam

From the eighteenth century's cobblestone streets
With the horse and the carraiges to rest our feet
To the train and city tram
Came the birth of mechanical man
And with mechanical man came the automobile
Henry Ford's Model 'T' with an engine on wheels
And a crazy race began, with a car for every man.
A limousine, hot rod, Beetle and a van, or maybe just an old sedan.

We're heading for a great big worldwide traffic jam
With only red lights, green lights, yellow lights
To be our guiding hand.
We're heading for a great big worldwide traffic jam
With all the hoots and the toots and the traffic brutes
To fill our loving land.
I wonder who's gonna win this great big race,
Mechanical man or the natural pace?

From the back seat Romeo in lover's lane
To the family car on a highway in Spain,
There's a car for every need,
With the shape, the colour and speed.
It's the twentieth century's technical toy,
Full of buttons and dials, full of comfort and joy
But the number's going up - I wonder where it's gonna stop
The limousine, hot rod, Bettle and the van,
It's gonna go way out of hand.

We're heading for a great big worldwide traffic jam
With only red lights, green lights, yellow lights
To be our guiding hand.
We're heading for a great big worldwide traffic jam
With all the hoots and the toots and the traffic brutes
To fill our loving land.
I wonder who's gonna win this great big race,
Mechanical man or the natural pace
For the world's getting smaller,
And the time's getting shorter every day...

We're heading for a great big worldwide traffic jam
We're heading for a great big worldwide traffic jam
We're heading for a great big worldwide traffic jam

Eve of Destruction
by Barry McGuire 1965

The Eastern world, it is explodin',
Violence flarin', bullets loadin'.
You're old enough to kill, but not for votin',
You don't believe in war -- but what's that gun you're totin'?
An' even the Jordan river has bodies floatin'.
But you tell me, over and over and over again, my friend,
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Don't you understand what I'm tryin' to say,
An' can't you feel the fears I'm feelin' today?
If the button is pushed, there's no runnin' away,
There'll be no one to save, will the world in a grave.
Take a look around you, boy, it's bound to scare you, boy.
An' you tell me, over and over and over again, my friend,
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Yeak, my blood's so mad feels like coagulatin',
I'm sittin' here just contemplatin'.
I can't twist the truth, it knows no regulation,
Handful of senators don't pass legislation,
An' marches alone can't bring integration
When human respect is disintegratin',
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin'.
An' you tell me, over and over and over again, my friend,
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Think of all the hate there is in Red China,
Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama.
Ah, you may leave here for four days in space,
But when you return it's the same ol' place,
The poundin' of the drums, the pride an' disgrace.
You can bury your dead, but don't leave a trace.
Hate your next-door neighbor, but don't forget to say grace,
An' tell me, over and over and over again, my friend,
You don't believe we're on the eve of destruction,
No, no, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

I've been browsing around some of the old threads on Powerswitch and liked this peak oil music theme. Jethro Tull! - fantastic band.

But no mention here of Hawkwind, and specifically their track "We took the wrong step years ago" ??
Check it out:
Think about the things that we should have done before
The way things are going the end is about to fall.
We took the wrong step years ago
We took the wrong step years ago
We took the wrong step years ago
Take a look around and see the warnings close at hand
Already weeds are writing their scriptures in the sand
We took the wrong step years ago
We took the wrong step years ago
The morning sun is rising, casting rays across the land,
Already nature's calling, take heed of the warning,
We took the wrong step years ago
We took the wrong step years ago
We took the wrong step years ago

Absolutely superb song!! This is one of my all-time favourites . . . sends shivers up my spine!!

It's a proper satanic song though . . . the sentiment is the essence of hopelessness. If you listen to it, I recommend you listen to "Hurry on Sundown", another psychedelic acoustic number of theirs, immediately afterwards:
Well hurry on sundown
See what tomorrow brings
Hurry on sundown
See what tomorrow brings
Well it may bring war
Any old thing
Well look into your mind's eye
See what you can see
There's hundreds of people like you and me

Yeah, nice one, I could listen to Hawkwind all day, years ahead of their time, and still going it seems!

How about "Children of the Sun" for those who are more optimistic about life after PO?:
The golden age of the future comes
That which was dreamed of in the past
Where freedom reigns on minds of peace
Minds rich in wisdom to the last
We are the children of the sun and this is our inheritance
No longer chaos and confusion
But love and laughter
Song and dance

Just been listening to the some tracks off the new Faithless album - more top notch stuff:

From "Bombs"
One bomb, the whole block gone
Can't find me children and dust covers the sun
Everywhere is noise, panic and confusion
But to some, another fun day in Babylon
I'm gonna bury my wife and dig up my gun
My life is done so now I got to kill someone
[EDIT - The Video's pretty stunning too!]

Well this is going to provide a stark contrast to the somewhat bleak vision of "Bombs" by Faithless, but I heard a song today from the film "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" and thought it'd be a fab tune for the PO Greatest Hits album we seem to be compiling here (Sad eh?... Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - these days everything makes me think about peak oil ). So here's something we can all sing together to keep our spirits up after the SHTF, along with Monty Python's "Always look on the bright side of life" I suppose!!:
The Roses of Success:
Every bursted bubble has a glory!
Each abysmal failure makes a point!
Every glowing path that goes astray,
Shows you how to find a better way.
So every time you stumble never grumble.
Next time you'll bumble even less!
For up from the ashes, up from the ashes, grow the roses of success!

Grow the roses! Grow the roses!
Grow the roses of success! Oh yes!
Grow the roses! Those rosy roses!
From the ashes of disaster grow the roses of success!

For every big mistake you make be grateful!
That mistake you'll never make again!
Every shiny dream that fades and dies,
Generates the steam for two more tries!
Oh there's magic in the wake of a fiasco!
It gives you that chance to second guess! Oh yes!
Then up from the ashes, up from the ashes grow the roses of success!
[repeat chorus]

Disaster didn't stymie Louis Pasteur!
Edison took years to see the light!
Alexander Graham knew failure well;
he took a lot of knocks to ring that bell!
So when it gets distressing it's a blessing!
Onward and upward you must press!
Till up from the ashes, up from the ashes grow the roses of success.
[repeat chorus]
