Just noticed this at the APPGOPO site.
50 MPs have signed this motion:
That this House notes that current movements in energy and food prices are in conformance with the predictions as to what would happen as oil production peaks; and calls for the Government urgently to review its predictions as to when peak oil occurs with a view to determining whether or not urgent policy adjustments are called for.
Looks good. What happens next?

Oh and according to
http://edmi.parliament.uk/EDMi/EDMDetai ... ESSION=891 the breakdown of the 50 MPs was:
Democratic Unionist Party 2
INDEPENDENT 1
Labour Party 23
Liberal Democrats 23
Social Democratic and Labour Party 1

"All Party"?? Where's da Tories? Weren't they invited to the signing do?

Erm...how about "Conservative and Unionist Party" as an excuse there? Or is that a bit olde-fashioned now?

I've emailed my MP to ask why there are no Tories supporting the EDM. Probably won't get a reply until after the hols but will let you all know the answer.

EDIT - He's away until 2nd June.

So there's another reminder why there's a difference between Labour (+LibDem) and the Tories, despite both major parties being useless at running the economy for the long term.

David Milliband for PM?

This is good news. I see there are 3 MPs from N Ireland have signed the EDM and Lembit Opik - maybe we are starting to make a little progress in the political front?

Ah, The Times agrees.

And TEQs (by another name) on the top of Radio 4 news and an interview with Tim Yeo promoting the idea just after 7 this morning. We live in interesting times?

Monbiot and Hilary Benn on TEQs (aka personal carbon allowances) on R4 at 8.10
Benn was saying make me holy but not just yet

Good to have choices, innit?

I have a horrible fear that telling the truth about peak oil will be a very bad electoral strategy. You can't give the great unwashed the shocking news without a radical action plan - and one of them ain't gonna look pleasant:

So Labour lose the next election when they tell us the truth. The Tory government is seen to be in control as we hit the buffers/fall of the cliff/the shtf and David Milliband leads a new Emergency Government of National Unity just in time to cancel the Olympics :)

That's a nice scenario but Boris the Mayor might throw a spanner in the works by making the tories unelectable before The General Election comes around.

Your not wrong, politicians don't have the balls to believe it let alone tell anyone.

The recent APPGOP meeting there were 3 MPs, top of the agenda eh!

I think Ken Deffeyes sums it up perfectly in his book Beyond Oil when he asks, what politician would stand for election on a platform of promising 30 years of blood, sweat and tears?
