Globalisation Institute

I've just read an article from the Sunday Telegraph ( 24/02/08 ) about Fairtrade - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/main.j ... air224.xml - which puts the blame for the plight of Kenya's coffee farmers on the Kenyan government and not on world prices and multinationals. It also lauds Brazil for pursuing Free Market reforms which enable 5 people and a machine to do the work of 500 people. It is written by Alex Singleton, the founder of the Globalisation Institute.

Looking at their website - http://www.globalisation.eu/ - it is full of other quasi-green and intellectually bankrupt articles such as " Pay as you throw is the way to go" and "Positive environmentalism: a convenient truth" all pushing, surprise, surprise, BAU and economic growth.

How anyone can see the making of 495 people jobless and removing the hundreds of thousands of pounds cost of machinery from the local into the global economy as a good thing, I don't know. I suppose if you think that wasting the energy in making things only to throw them away is sensible or if you support the ever increasing and unlimited use of finite resources you must have a very limited intellect.

(Edit) I've been unable to find any reference to Peak Oil, oil price or oil availability. There is an article by an economist invoking the thoughts of a philosopher to justify criticism of climate change and the scientists who support it. And this site is called a "leading Think Tank" by politicians! No wonder we're going to hell in a handcart!

It comes from their perspective of the world. Our current socioeconomic system has made lots of people better off than they were even 30 years ago, never mind 100. They just look around them and say ?is this wonderful? Just look at all the wonderful things this system has brought us! Let?s make it better by making it even freer and for everyone?. In other words, they turn a blind eye any problems it might have. Its easy to do if the problems don?t effect you personally.
