Speech by Claude Mandil

I attended a lunch today where the guest speaker was Claude Mandil, the Executive Director of the IEA.
I was actually very impressed with his speech. He made it very plain that:
a) business as usual is not acceptable
b) the market does not provide timely signals
c) subsidy does not in fact lead to lower costs and cheaper renewables (ie the German example).
d) a full mix of energy solutions is required.
e) government mandated investment in renewables technology and efficiency technology (and public education) is key.
I tend to agree with all these, and even then it probably wont be enough.
Monsieur Mandil is a very nice chap, by the way. Apparently his wife tells him off for leaving the lights on.
