Clegg promises green stimulus package

The Liberal Democrats today looked to build on what promises to be the most dramatic political turnaround in a generation with the official launch of its £3bn green jobs plan.

Speaking at a press conference in Cardiff intended to highlight the environmental commitments in the Lib Dem's election manifesto, party leader Nick Clegg said that the low-carbon economy provided the answer to "the most important issue of all in this election: how we can build a new economy from the rubble of the old".

He also vowed that Lib Dem plans to invest £3.1bn in low-carbon projects and infrastructure over the next year as part of a new economic stimulus plan would not only serve to create up to 30,000 jobs, but would also ensure that the benefits are felt right across the country.
