Industrial Society Destroys Mind and Environment

What can we do to change the minds of decision makers and people in general to actually do something about preparing for the forthcoming economic/energy crises (the ones after this one!)?

It's a small comfort, but environmental destruction could have been a lot worse than it actually has been over the last generation.

If discussion could solve global problems this world would have become a paradise by now.

Endless Discussion, Debate and Argument is a Disease and Insanity of Industrial Society that created the Printing Press, Radio, Television and Internet.

Trillions of Pages of Discussion, Debate and Argument is another Harmful Waste created by Industrial Society .........just like Trillions of Tonnes of Metal Waste, Plastic Waste, Chemical Waste, Gaseous Waste, eWaste and Nuclear Waste.

Discussion cannot save environment........Animal Species and Hunter_Gatherer Society did not save environment for millions of years through discussion......They did not even have a language for discussing environmental issues........They saved environment by destroying less......They saved environment by destroying environment only for food and not for thousands of consumer goods and services..

Agrarian Society destroyed very little environment [compared to Industrial Society] over a period of 10,000 years........It did not engage in endless discussion, debate and argument to save environment.........It saved environment by destroying less......It saved environment by destroying environment only for food, clothing & shelter and not for thousands of consumer goods and services.

When somebody putting forth such a radical message engages so little with people showing interest and asking questions then I am afraid you will lose people's attention Sushil.

Your last 2 replies were very similar and did nothing to answer questions raised in recent posts or help us to determine how you suggest we can deal with the situation you outline.

My opinion is being swayed in the direction RC has outlined and Steve has pointed out........

Over to you Sushil. :?

clv101,

Even if the resolutions passed by Kyoto, Cancun and other global summits are implemented successfully [which is very unlikely to happen] it is hardly going to save environment.

The attempt to save environment by a small reduction in Gaseous Emissions is so ridiculous when the entire world is promoting Industrial Activity, Consumerism, Growth Rate, Economy Rate and GDP.

Industrial Gaseous emissions are only one part of environmental destruction.

Environmental Destruction is much bigger than just Gaseous Emissions.

Environment is being destroyed by thousands of Industrial Activities.......It cannot be saved by reducing one Industrial activity by a small percentage.

Reducing Gaseous Emissions by a small percentage is not going to save environment that is being destroyed by Energy Generation Industry, Mining Industry, Logging Industry, Manufacturing Industry, Construction Industry, Oil Drilling Industry, Oil Refining Industry, Transportation Industry, Millions of kilometers of Rail and Road Network, Millions of kilometers of Air Routes and Shipping Lanes.

Reducing Gaseous Emissions is not going to save environment that is being destroyed by other Industrial Activities that are producing Trillions of tonnes of Metal Waste, Plastic Waste, Chemical Waste, eWaste and Nuclear Waste that has contaminated and poisoned the entire planet.

Reducing Gaseous Emissions is not going to prevent the killing of billions of acres of fertile soil by cement, concrete and asphalt.......It is not going to stop Industrial Fishing that decimated fish in the oceans.

Some people are planning to shoot someone 10,000 times.......Then they realize it is going to kill the person and something must be done to save the victim........They engage in a marathon brainstorming session and finally come out with a solution.......Instead of shooting him 10,000 times they decide to shoot him 9,999 times.

I'm happy to let s_y continue; you don't have to read his/her posts. Quirky they may be but who isn't here?

As for solutions, we all have them but few agree on a implementable ones, even here, where we mostly tend towards certain ideas.

Carry on, s_y. Don't let the begrudgers grind you down.

I wouldn't mind if he'd actually say something original for once. Carrying on a thread for years on end with constant regurgitation of the same old thing wastes more than all the many discussions he claims are bad.

Proof recycling isn't always a good thing.

The cause of environmental destruction is "Industrial Activity".

The cause of environmental destruction is not going to change from day to day, month to month, year to year.

The solution is also not going to change from day to day, month to month, year to year.

I am not going to come up with insane solutions like ........."Bring this technology, Bring that technology..........Bring this technology, Bring that technology".

When people are asked to tell the name of their father do they give the same answer or do they give different answers at different places and different times??????

Do people change the name of their father after 10 years.....20 years .....and 30 years??????

Industrial Society is engaging in endless Discussion, Debate and Argument on the issue of saving environment.......How can environment be saved???......How can environment be saved???

Height of Insanity and Abnormality!!!

This question would make sense if environment had never been saved before....... This question would make sense if environment had never been saved in the past.

People are asking a question whose answer has been known for millions of years.

You save environment the way it was saved for millions of years.

There is only one way to save environment.......Destroy less.

Animals saved environment by destroying it only for food.

Hunter_Gatherer Society saved environment by destroying it only for food.

Agrarian Society saved environment by destroying it only for food, clothing and shelter.

For millions of years the list of things that destroyed environment never exceeded food, clothing and shelter.

You cannot save environment by destroying more of it.........You cannot save environment by destroying it for thousands of consumer goods and services in addition to food, clothing and shelter.

That is hardly the same thing. The thing is you keep repeating what you've already written so much of the time- you only need to do it once. Do you want someone to remind people of what their father's name is constantly, if they already know what his father's name is?

The point of these forums is to, you know, actually have discussion. Discussion can have value- say if someone has difficulty with your argument, you can defend it. (It doesn't mean you have to do it by copying and pasting old text or using exactly the same form of words you used before. It tends to put people off.) It also helps you to understand if there are any problems with your argument, and prevents it from being "I am right, by definition, and that's the end of it."

Yes, there is a lot of meaningless discussion in the world (often it's about utterly pointless issues, irreconcilable things or trivia), and sometimes discussion is an excuse for inaction, pretending you're doing something when you're not (granted I'm often guilty of this). But then, you take the time to come on here and present your case- that is just as much words as opposed to action.

Also, you never answered my previous objections. It would be interesting to see what you have to say.

the_lyniezian,

I have posted in many forums. It is not possible for me to engage in long discussions with all people who have commented on my thread / article in all forums.........but still I have made 66 posts in this forum.......many of them are additions to my article and many of them are replies to comments made by other members.

All members are free to read or not read any thread in this forum.

All members are free to comment or not comment in any thread in this forum.

There are many threads in this forum that have received zero replies or less than 10 replies...... so there is little reason to complain about lack of discussion in a thread which has got 355 replies.

There have been 355 replies in this thread [out of which my posts are 66].......which shows a large number of members have indeed participated in discussion. Moreover the participation of the original poster is not essential for continuation of discussion.......Anyone who wants to post his opinion is free to post.

Sushil, I think you're "unclear on the concept" of the word "discussion". Don't take this the wrong way, but is English your mother toungue?

When we had Hunter Gatherer Society and Agrarian Society, there were only about a 100 million people on the planet - much less than the people in your own country today.

Now we have over 7000 million people - even if we stopped producing "thousands of consumer goods and services" your proposal doesn't make sense, how can we save the environment with this number of people?

If you want your proposals taken seriously you have to address how we get from where we are today, to where you say we have to get to.

Otherwise, you will not be taken seriously.
