35-hour/4-day week

What can we do to change the minds of decision makers and people in general to actually do something about preparing for the forthcoming economic/energy crises (the ones after this one!)?

Is a 35-hour, 4-day week a good idea?

Bring back constant strikes, power cuts, bin lorry strikes etc

Oh wait....

One must ask two things here:

1. Are you referring in "the same failed ideas of the 1970s" to the three-day-week policy used during the '73-'74 energy crisis?

2. If so, then surely you must realise that this is a completely different situation here? We are talking about a one-day reduction of the working week with no overall loss of hours in response to aslow and encroachingproblem, rather than a two-day reduction with loss of hours in response to an acute crisis (or a political ploy to make the miners look responsible, which backfired).

3. Constant strikes &c.? I assume you are implying this, but of couse some of these are already here...
