Conservative party/opposition watch

What can we do to change the minds of decision makers and people in general to actually do something about preparing for the forthcoming economic/energy crises (the ones after this one!)?

Another said: "It was a genuine shock... the number of pledges made by MPs will have greatly exceeded 120, but that is perfectly understandable because our natural instinct is not to upset people."
In other words it is perfectly understandable because the natural instinct of tories is to lie to people about important things in order to maximise their own chances of slithering up the greasy pole of political success. They are all in it for themselves. It's exactly what they stand for.

It is certainly possible, given our electoral system, that at the next election the Tories will gain votes from reform and lose votes to LD, and end up as the party with the most votes, and yet come third in terms of number of seats.

Ordinary voters are becoming more savvy than Tory MPs at tactical voting....
The next election will be interesting if voters in Labour seats vote tactically to get them out and the same happens in Tory seats...

I have a gut feeling that the next election will be the last under FPTP.

There seem to be a lot of UK MPs with very small majorities.

Indeed, Labour were very 'efficient' with their vote hence the dramatically different result to Corbyn on a similar number of votes.

Robert Jenrick Accepts Donations from ‘Family Friend’ Who Ships Arms to Israel:
https://bylinetimes.com/2024/10/10/robe ... to-israel/
Conservative leadership hopeful Robert Jenrick has received large donations from a billionaire whose firm is responsible for shipping arms to Israel, whose name appears in the Pandora papers, and who was also drawn into the MP’s previous lobbying scandal.

Jenrick, who on Wednesday progressed to the final round of the leadership race alongside Kemi Badenoch, received £70,000 from Quantum Pacific Corporation in two donations of £35,000; one on 3 April “for campaign funding”, the other on 28 August.

Quantum Pacific corporation is owned by Israeli billionaire Idan Ofer, who Jenrick described as a “family friend” in 2020 and who he controversially met in 2018 while assessing a scheme that posed a threat to Ofer’s business.

Both candidates admit it's been a low turnout......
Wonder if we'll get to hear how many actually bothered ?

I see that the new leader has a degree in computer systems engineering!

Urm, just because someone is black does not mean they aren't racist! Rather the opposite, it is racist to assume someone holds particular views *because* of the colour of their skin.

Maybe CLV...I get all that. Hence the reason for my post . It's just the nature of the attack that seems a bit hypocritical..

It'll be interesting to see how she handles Farage...

So Kemi has appointed Priti Patel as Foreign Secretary. That could be her first mistake.......
