Aren't the Scandinavians busy bringing in loads of people from the third world, not as busy as us, but I really doubt thats the sort of attitude you need to have a sustainable country in a depletion world .

I think you want someone willing to machine gun boats full of the starving when they come to your shores, if thats the logical thing to do .

Of all the people on this page mentioned I honestly think the only one who could run a successful post peak country is griffin, in fact likely hes too fluffy ....this is not good news, and Ive never voted for him and do not intend to. but you find me one mainstream political leader that would be any good dealing with peak oil issues .

The greens who Ive voted for are to bloody fluffy a lot of them believe in things like no borders, so we could well end up with any number of desperate people in the UK lets see how well we would do with 200 million not 70.

All major party's are for letting millions more people come to the uk how do we feed them.

Anyway when you look for good peak oil politicians and you actually think what you need its a awful bleak picture.

You don't really need "nice" people we are not entering a "nice" period of history we are entering a period of war and mass starvation and economic and social collapse. somehow we need to be able to balance our resources and population we will balance them it all depends on how

Well the sort of political leader who might do well in a world of mass die-off would be someone like hmm Genghis khan or Hitler or Stalin, I don't think hes in their league .

I'm trying to think of a British leader with the right level of ruthlessness and self confidence off hand cant think of one maybe elizabeth the 1st

Vlad the impaler would have done well but hes from Transylvania.

What a great sense of humor he had

To stop the turks invading his territory he ambushed their forward units took 20,000 prisoners and impaled them on wooden stakes all along the skyline in this valley he knew the main force had to ride through .

you can last for weeks impaled it takes far longer than say crucifixion

So Vlad had him impaled but on a post 20 foot higher than the rest, and when Vlad came out of his tent after breakfast next morning he shouted up does the smell bother you now .

He also got rid of all crime by putting a golden cup in every village square and if it was stolen he would impale every man women and child in the village ....so to stop the cups being stolen villagers would strangle anyone in their villages they thought might be dishonest
