National conscription

What can we do to change the minds of decision makers and people in general to actually do something about preparing for the forthcoming economic/energy crises (the ones after this one!)?

Is a reintroduction of national conscription conceivable?

Yeah probably.

National conscription

Post by Joe »

In a post-peak world which (if some comentators on the subject are to be believed) will be characterised by a stagnating economy, rising unemployment and crime, increased international competition for resources and a political shift to the right do you reckon it's plausible that a reintroduction of national service is considered an acceptable way of tackling several social and political problems simultaneously?

You know it's funny. I was thinking about this earlier - I am pretty much completely indifferent to the outcome of this poll or indeed whether we reintroduce national conscription or not :)

It struck me that I just posted it because the thought popped into my head for a minute and I thought "yeah, that's some random Peak Oil crap for people to talk about".

Is anyone else starting to scrape the barrel for stuff to talk about but still feel compelled to keep logging in and posting anything, even if it's irrelevant crap just to maintain some dialogue, a sense of belonging and little chunk of sanity in an increasingly discomforting world?

Maybe it's just me...

Joe, when you're saturated like that it is time to go into non-peak oil forums and start spreading the word!

Excellent idea. We can also write to local newspapers, our MPs and magazines. What about putting on a show of End Of Suburbia? - check out the campaign section and have a go at raising awareness.

Let us know what you did and how you got on.

No, it's not just you :D

As for the poll - not a chance! Not because the government choose not to, but rather because hardly anyone would go and we're more likely to see the UK breaking up into sub-fractions I believe.
They say an intelligent person knows how to solve problems that a wise person would know how to avoid... Think about it in the context of our society for a moment
