UK considers joining new European nations club.

I have mixed feelings about this, if it is, and remains a cheap to join club that promotes cooperation between European nations, then this sounds a good idea.
I perceive some risk of it becoming some sort of "EU LIGHT" club to gradually rejoin the EU even if called something else.

I very much doubt it. The defining feature of the EU - the thing that gives it both its primary purpose and its main source of problems - is that it is a long-term project to build a fully integrated European superstate. This new group can only have a distinctive purpose if it does not have that feature. It has got to be understood to be a collaboration between sovereign states, with not the slightest whiff of intent to pool sovereignty.

I think anything that the Frogs have the whip hand on should be avoided.
Just another excuse to create another set of Euro bureaucracy located in a soon to be very expensive to live Central European city.
Perhaps observer status should be considered.

Sometimes it seems that the English and French really do deserve each other.
Nice of them to help out with the "British" nuclear power programme.

And considering the complete horlicks the French have made of their nuclear fleet. We should be very careful about building anymore new ones.BritDownUnder wrote: ↑22 Sep 2022, 08:19Less of a power program more of an exercise in burning money.kenneal - lagger wrote: ↑22 Sep 2022, 00:58The British have got more sense than to get involved!Potemkin Villager wrote: ↑21 Sep 2022, 19:33 .............

By fleet I presume you mean their land-based power generating nuclear reactors not their subs?Stumuz2 wrote: ↑22 Sep 2022, 09:25And considering the complete horlicks the French have made of their nuclear fleet. I would imagine most of their nuclear reactors were built, or at least being planned and under construction during their 'Trente Glorieuses' years and are getting a bit old.
They obviously have not been replacing them at a sufficient rate but then again the French have been rather busy backstabbing and screwing the other countries in the EU while at the same time handing over their country to North African immigrants/colonists. But that's another story.
As far as electrical planning goes they have been a lot more proactive than the UK and have used the EU regulations to its full to boost their domestic manufacturing unlike other countries. For a country with a good diverse power system with an eye to the future I would look to Spain. They have wind, hydro, nuclear, gas and even coal in their power mix.

The French love to manage things. When the Nazis rolled into Paris the French bureaucracy was running Paris on behalf of the Germans by tea time. Literally the same day, the city was taken, subjugated, and surrendered on the same day.
Post war, the deal was the EU would be run by France for the French. The German guilt trip allowing it to happen.
Because the French are failing at putting their name on the German credit card (mutual debt issuance) time to start something new. Let's call it a European nations club

Re: UK considers joining new European nations club.
As part of the post Brexit cherry picking the UK now seems very keen indeed to rejoin
the Horizon Europe R+D programme despite a lot of blustering that the UK would
go it alone with a, so far never revealed, "Plan B".
Another bit of European involvement in the UK I have never understood is the large amount
of national infrastructure flogged off to France in particular e.g. water and rail.
I guess you could call it a love/hate relationship with a bit of S+M thrown in!
It was never put to the test what would have happened if the Germans had
rolled in to London in WWII so we have to content ourselves with fictional "what ifs' like
Len Deighton's SS GB.

Re: UK considers joining new European nations club.
The money men in London, and elsewhere for that matter, have no interest in anything other than money and anything which makes them more money. So they would quite happily sell off the whole country to Russia or China if they made a buck out of it. And many politicians would do the same for the same reason.
