Nigel Farage demands a referendum on Net Zero

What can we do to change the minds of decision makers and people in general to actually do something about preparing for the forthcoming economic/energy crises (the ones after this one!)?

Nigel Farage demands a referendum on Net Zero

Post by Mark »

Nigel Farage's new drive for vote to kill off Boris's 'ruinous' green agenda: He got us out of the EU… Now the former UKIP chief demands a referendum on Net Zero:
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... endum.html
* Nigel Farage is launching movement to campaign for a referendum on Net Zero
* Britain Means Business will call for the abandonment of the flagship green policy
* Ex Brexit Party leader says 'political class in Westminster' has taken the country down a 'ruinous path'
* He established movement with Leave Means Leave's co-founder Richard Tice

Continues....

Very unlikely to succeed, IMHO. There is considerable support for a lower carbon future. And the present high prices of oil and gas suggest that renewables will in many cases be cheaper.

I doubt that true Net Zero will be achieved, but a significant reduction is likely.

I voted for Mr Farage rather reluctantly because although I agreed with his views on the EU, I DISAGREED with most of his other policies, including the opposition to wind farms and to new high speed rail. I very much doubt that I will ever vote for or otherwise support him again.

Wind power is already making a significant contribution to UK electricity supplies, and replacing a lot of hugely expensive gas.

The vast majority of Farage's fanbase will be 'in tune' with his views on Net Zero.
Read a editorial piece in The Sun the other day - their 'solution' to the current crisis is to turn up the taps in the North Sea and to start fracking asap.
Many in the Tory party and much of the right wing press are of the same view on this.

Boris (and Carrie ?) get some credit on Net Zero.
The solution is more renewables, not more fossil fuels.

TBH this is barely more than attention-seeking at this point. He got what he set out to achieve in politics, now he is an irrelevance.

Looks like Putin has been following Dugin's blueprint ?
Most of us knew about Russia's influence on Brexit, but some of the other stuff is new to me....

As an aside, has anyone read Ben Elton's book "Identity Crisis" ?
I know it's a work of fiction, but it's a really interesting narrative on our times...
It's almost as if he knew certain things were going to happen....

That old tired trope.

How did Putin create that elephant graph that caused Trump, Brexit?

Have a read, Stumuz....
https://isc.independent.gov.uk/wp-conte ... ssible.pdf

The 'Russia Report' was shelved by HMG for over a year - wonder why ??
It describes Russian interference in the UK as “the new normal”.

It also highlights HMG's failure to EVEN EXAMINE Russian attempts to influence the course of the Brexit vote - wonder why ??
Even so, the report states that it was only after Russian operatives hacked and leaked internal emails from US Democrats during the 2016 election that “the Government belatedly realised the level of threat which Russia could pose in this area”. This realisation came a month AFTER the Brexit vote. If an assessment had been conducted before the Brexit referendum, the report adds, “it is inconceivable that they would not have reached the same conclusion as to Russian intent, which might then have led them to take action to protect the process.”

Russian involvement/money wasn't the ONLY factor in Brexit, and probably not the DECIDING factor.
Just highlighting that it was ONE of the factors.

Have a look, try to understand, and above all, give cogent reasons why the elephant graph was not to blame for Brexit, Trump etc.

No comment on the Intelligence and Security Committee of Parliament ?
Thought not....

As for The Elephant Graph...., the masses are poorer still post Brexit, no ?
And much worse to come with NI increases, inflation, energy bills, and no £350 million/week for the NHS....
We were promised sunlit uplands, but we've yet to see anything like, unless you know different....?

Does it say that Russia has been buying influence in the UK and around the world with dirty money, AKA, a- symmetrical warfare? No Sh*t sherlock.

Very bad, or at least unlucky timing by Nigel Farage, looking at the present price of natural gas, and concerns regarding future availability of gas !

"Wind saves the day", is a reasonable view rather than farage view that it is a needless expense. We need more wind power, more PV, and more energy saving.
