Recently the Labour Party did a 'survey' on line. Most of the questions were a bit silly and the results don't show much. I think the exercise was mostly to engage people with an activity that led to a page that said Thanks now please give us some money.
Nevertheless one question was interesting in the peak-oil context:
"And what about the next 30 years: do you think life in Britain will get better or worse for most people?"
The result was 49696 people pressing the 'Better' button and 83678 people choosing 'Worse'.
Over most of post-war history there has been a widespread assumption that the future will be better. It seems that this has reversed in a pretty substantial way.
Mind you, that still leaves over a third of the sample not accepting reality.
