All housing types are suitable for heat pumps, finds Electrification of Heat project:

There is no property type or architectural era that is unsuitable for a heat pump – the Government-funded Electrification of Heat project has demonstrated.

Yes but for large and poorly insulated homes, both the capital cost and the running costs are likely to be excessive.

A wood stove might be a better option for some older homes, and with extreme insulation for new builds, such that little heating is needed.

London man furious as council won't let him have eco-friendly boiler on his roof - and suggests he put it in his bedroom:

A father-of-two is taking on the council after refusing permission on the grounds it alters the visual appearance of the building. A man has become embroiled in a fierce row with his local council over an eco-friendly heat pump. Kensington homeowner Raj Sharma, 51, is taking on the council after its officers refused permission for the gas boiler alternative to be installed on his roof. Film producer Raj has set out to prove that the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea (RBKC) planning department has failed to act upon the green agenda the council publicly endorses. "For me, there's a gross hypocrisy within the council," he said. "Because all the words on their website are quite clear and quite impressive, but there's no real implementation." Raj says he's now prepared to fight to see that fundamental change is made at the planning department, so the council can prove that it is serious about its green credentials. "I want this to be a test case that encourages others to be eco-friendly because at the moment people like me are being penalised," he added. "This crazy approach by the council will only harm all progress for the borough to be carbon neutral."

Councils have to enforce government planning regulations and regulations on listed buildings. This could be a listed building on which a modern addition like a heat pump heat exchanger would not be allowed.

There are also a lot of listed buildings that will need to be insulated or they will be either uninhabitable or unaffordable to live in. There will need to be a rethink or a lot of them could be abandoned.

With the chap in London, he might have been better fixing it to the back wall, but I guess we don't know whether he has room to do that ?

We spoke to an estate agent today about putting our listed thatched cottage on the market. Was a little disappointed that his estimate for the sale price was 15% lower than one we were quoted 9 months ago. It may be that the energy and living cost and interest rate rises are cooling the market for twee but impractical village money pits.
