Global IT company, Datapipe, which hosts the ENWORKS Online Resource Efficiency Toolkit software, has announced plans to run a new Iceland data centre on geothermal and hydroelectric energy. The newly opened data centre in Keflavik, Iceland was developed by UK-based developer, Verne Global. Tests are being carried out on network performance before new, green cloud services can be launched, but the site already operates on a carbon neutral basis. The facility is powered by Iceland’s dual-sourced renewable energy power grid, which distributes electricity from hydroelectric and geothermal sources, and the local ambient temperatures mean that minimal energy is required for cooling equipment.
