A form of green energy that relies on geothermal heat could become an important option in the future, an expert has said.
Geothermal power is extracted from heat that is stored naturally in the earth, originating from the formation of the planet, the radioactive decay of minerals and the absorption of solar energy at the surface.
James Woudhuysen, visiting professor of forecasting and innovation at De Montfort University in Leicester, has written a white paper in which he describes the potential of heat as a renewable energy source.
Professor Woudhuysen believes that renewable heat could help the UK to meet its rising energy demands.
