No significant change in French nuclear output, still varying between about 25 GW and about 27 GW. And now there is another outage of the cross channel interconnector, now restricted to 1 GW.

Cross channel interconnector now back to 2GW, or two thirds of full capacity. French nuclear generation slightly increased to 29GW, which is still only about half of that previously achieved.

And now french oil refinery workers are on strike and have voted to continue this strike action.
Only of indirect relevance to the electricity supply problems.
If the natural gas shortage is as bad as expected, then some French gas turbine power plants could be run on light oil IF SUPPLIES ARE AVAILABLE.
Some larger electricity consumers have diesel generators for power cuts, obtaining fuel for these might be problem.

And of course strike action is contagious, and an oil industry strike might encourage other strikes.

Apologies to any French person reading this. Most French people I have met, as with most other nationalities, are utterly charming. It's the nation and government I have a problem with.

Mind you the French probably feel the same about us!!

And then there's the decommissioning bill. No doubt there are meetings afoot in the Élysée Palace on how to get the European taxpayers to foot the bill.

Having some nuclear, and indeed coal for a short while is beneficial while having all your eggs in one basket is a bad idea. Spain seems to have the best power system in Europe. Has a lot of diversity of supply with no one fuel dominating the generation mix.

Interestingly the French seem to have had to fully embrace all the consequences of their continuing nuclear enthusiasm just as the Germans are now attempting to put an end to their previous nuclear policy enthusiasm and its consequences.
