The UK Food System and the Hidden Costs Generated by It

I am writing on this forum to raise awareness regarding a very important issue in the UK. Many consumers are unaware of this, but the truth is that the cost of the food they buy is much higher than the retail price. To be more specific, UK consumers pay twice the selling price for their food without realising it.
The additional costs incurred by consumers are known as hidden costs. These costs are generated by the UK food sector through soil degradation, environmental pollution, biodiversity loss and food-related ill-health. Consumers pay for the hidden costs in the form of environmental taxation, water charges and private health insurances.
The data-driven infographic The Hidden Cost of Food in the UK based on the report The Hidden Cost of UK Food by the Sustainable Food Trust shows how hidden costs affect the natural environment and the UK society.
