Meet Roger

Our "girls" entered a new state of Nirvana yesterday, when Roger came on the scene:
He's a one year old Welsumer, surplus to requirements by the previous owner. I'm hoping he'll put paid to some of the residual squabbles that we've had since we increased the size of the flock and, obviously, I'm looking forward to producing chicks.
Just a few minutes after we put him in the compound, he was strutting around like he owned the place, and it wasn't long before he "got down to business"!

They look great under the trees!

Natural environment. I've had a trail camera set up in their compound. Sometimes they roost in the trees overnight rather than going back in the coop. It's pretty sheltered there.

Don't turn your back on him. He'll have to show the girls how brave he is by driving you away and those spurs can do a job on the back of your legs.

They'd look even better in the oven.

All in good time. They're earning their keep laying eggs at the moment. Four boxes a day at £1.20 a box, plus all that we need for ourselves.

Actually he seems pretty docile so far. The girls associate me with food and I think he's taken his cue from them. Just hope he steps up to the mark if Monsieur Renard comes along!

Just like a little Jersey bull. They look innocent enough until they aren't. Don't say I didn't try to warn you.
