There are calls to prohibit the use of outdoor heaters in Paris. These are very popular and use a great deal of gas or electricity.

Excessive INDOOR heating is bad enough, but trying to heat the outdoors is daft.
The electric heaters are often about 2Kw each and are often installed in rows.
The LPG ones are often as much as 10 to 15Kw and many establishments use several.

I think that we should ban them in the UK also.

And yes I know that the report refers to the ELECTRICITY consumption whilst being illustrated with a picture of a GAS heater.

I agree with that, Adam. I'm seeing my MP with local environmental groups soon and will bring that up as a request for action.

I've seen those in use in outdoor cafes. Yes a daft way to keep a customer warm. They use them to extend the outdoor alfresco dining season a couple pf weeks each end of the summer. I would think radiant heat built into the chairs and table supports would be more efficient but you are going to have trouble keeping a lady in high heel's feet warm. Of course if you are spending $20 on a tiny shrimp cocktail served by a snooty waiter with fake accent you couldn't care less about the propane use.

These outdoor heaters are now to be banned, not just in Paris but throughout France.
The ban will not be implemented until after this winter as the hospitality industry has been badly hit by the pandemic.

There is also to be a ban on shops etc. leaving external doors open whilst heating or air conditioning is in use.

High time we introduced similar measures in the UK.

In ancient Japan they had the heat source directly under the table, and you arranged your robes to direct the hot air to all-of-you below the waist. Pretty efficient

Under pavement (sidewalk) heating will be the next thing and far more efficient.

Has the French ban on outdoor heating come into force ?
Is it being enforced ?
