Research into geoengineering is a great idea but who is to pay for it? And then if the get good results who will pay for the extremely expensive implementation? We can't ven agree on a reduction in carbon use or a carbon price floor so how are you going to get countries like the USA, whose government is in the pocket of industry, to implement a tax on industry to pay for something that will probably be implemented outside the country?

One technology that could do the world a lot of good and that would reduce CO2 worldwide is the production of biochar from waste and its sequestration in the earth. Even that would meet resistance because it would reduce the amount of fertiliser used and save a large volume of gas currently used to manufacture that fertiliser. That would damage growth!! If they did implement the manufacture of biochar we would probably find out that there was an industry growing biomass, using all the fertilisers, chemicals and tractors that they could, to turn into biochar! It would be like our current practice of growing biomass to turn into "green" biofuels at an EROEI of just over one and thinking we are saving the planet while we are turning rainforest into palm oil plantations.

We can't even get our own government to properly insulate our current houses or even get them to require builders to build them from new insulated to a proper standard. What chance is thee of getting them to cough up for a bit of geoengineering?

It should be Make A Difference.
