We 'are getting a pretty heavy snowstorm here at the moment 24"+/- predicted with winds , drifting and perhaps some thunder snow. Perhaps the equal to a March storm back in 68 when I was a schoolboy. I've been plowing off and on all day and will have lots of winging back to do tomorrow after it stops. Might be -15F tomorrow morning with a stiff wind. I'll post some pics when I get squared away for your amusement as you plant your gardens.

We're expecting 16C at the weekend. As warm as many a summer's day!! It's going to be dry again which is even more of a bonus but I can feel a drought coming on to make up for the glut we've had in past months.

We got 18 degrees yesterday. That's 64 to you.

Oh sure ! Rub it in why don't yah.? It is a bit before dawn and +2F at the moment but still dropping. That's 28 degrees F of drop over the evening hours. The snow has stopped but the wind is roaring in the trees. As soon as I get the fire built up and finish my second cup of coffee I'm going to fire up the tractor and see if I can open up the road from my place to the three houses higher up on the hill. It's probably drifted bank to bank on top of the hill where the road is fully exposed to the wind.

Erm, well we had a bit of fog this morning...

Fog this morning was a pea souper! R4 weatherman said visibility in Devon was ZERO yards! I think I could just about see 75 yards.

Looks like it's Discovery time there. A Defender would find it even easier!

I drove through about a foot of virgin snow in my Disco with 2.5T of trailer and hay on the back when we had snow a couple of years ago. Didn't even have the snow chains on! A Defender with knobbly tyres would do twice that I would think.

New snow is one thing but get out in settled snowpack and even with the chains on you are about done when it is deep enough for the drawbar to drag in the crusted snow. If I need to go off the beaten path now I'll put the bucket on and dig my way to where I need to go.

here is one more. There is a Toyota Camry in there but the wind seems to think it can improve on it's lines.

As it warms up we often get fog over the melting snow here that would equal any London fog. I remember once having to walk up the road with a flashlight (torch to you) and a white headband so my parents could see where the road was. It was mud season and you could not afford to get near the snow bank remnants for fear of getting stuck and the driver could not see either bank just thirty feet apart.

Well the storm is all over and we are back in the deep freeze. Drove down to the village this morning to help the missis clean the snow off her school bus. (She needs a ladder to reach. ) 14 below Zero F. as we drove down into the valley. Town roads all plowed ,winged back and sanded. BAU. Ski areas in heaven as well as snow machiners (gas powered sleds.)
I'll do a couple of hours of clean up with the tractor then go back to tapping trees on snow shoes. The gardens won't be free of snow cover before mid April.

I'm thinking of putting out some broad bean plants and some courgettes (zucchini) in the polytunnel!
