Methane release from gas production

In a recent paper http://www.pnas.org/content/early/2013/ ... l.pdf+html
Allen et al., conclude that "an estimated 2,300 Gg of methane emissions from natural gas production (0.42% of gross gas production)" escapes.
Are they right?
The paper should be read in conjunction with http://public-accountability.org/2013/0 ... ons-study/ in which the authors' conflicts of interest are described.
Reading beyond the abstract and the bottom-line average estimate figure, it seems to me that much hangs on the uncertainties and, especially, on uncertainties in how the uncertainty was calculated.
