Maybe not at peak demand yet, but I understand this is hapening:
He said that the role of gas in future would be much reduced, with the fuel providing only a back-up service in power generation, turned on at periods of peak electricity demand and then turned off again in favour of renewables and nuclear power.

Yes, King understands climate change but in search of straws to clutch, still believes in the nuclear fairy.

Unfortunately it can deliver more than the wind fairy or the "let's cover the fields in solar panels" fairy. All the systems have their faults.

Renewables' faults aren't long lasting as nuclear faults.

That's certainly a fairy tale, or you're a troll. ;)

What do you mean by "can deliver"? In the UK, for the last couple of days wind power has been delivering more than nuclear.

In 2012, globally renewables (ex hydro) were close to half the output of nuclear and growing at around 15%, wind growing closer to 20%. Nuclear output on the other hand is shrinking (-6.9% in 2012). Renewables, driven by wind are expected to exceed nuclear's output within a few years.

And when wind stops working it's called a Nice Day.

Does this include the electricity imported from France?

nukes have only two:
everything they say
and everything they do!"

Yeah, the interconnect maxes out around 2GW.

The Interconnector from Holland will be delivering mainly wind generated electricity and so will that from France on windy days when Denmark and Holland are both exporting.
