Arctic sea ice likely to hit record low next week

(Reuters) - Sea ice in the Arctic Ocean is likely to shrink to a record small size sometime next week, and then keep on melting, a scientist at the U.S. National Snow and Ice Data Center said on Monday.

Looks like to melt off is accelerating.
September ice free N.Pole by 2020 is looking likely now IMO.

Completely ignored by the MSM the sea ice has rocketed through all the previous record lows as measured by area or etent, and is still falling fast with up to two weeks of melt still to go (weather depending). Almost all of the thick multi-year ( more than 3 years old) ice has now melted. We could see an ice free north pole net year at this rate of melting (and not just a hole in the ice pack as already happens) and an ice free arctic a year to two later (at september minimum). We will have a better handle on the rate of melt when the PIOMAS update comes out in a couple of weeks.

At about 8 o'clock this morning I posted on facebook:
Arctic ice melt breaks all records
Later in the day NASA announced that the record had been broken yesterday.

Nice to see the BBC report on new low ice record is illustrated with Greenpeace people climbing a Shell drill. A connection is made.

If only it was of more than symbolic importance...

FWIW I've sent an Email off to them about the selection of pictures, outdated graph of ice loss and the obvious lack of the NASA image that kicked all this off.
Added a paragraph about the biased reporting of Climate Chaos in general for good measure.
I wonder if any of these scientists are betting people? It may be worth a punt

I heard it as saying, "Well, it's not all bad, since we'll be able to drill for oil up there now..."

That out of date graph is particularly slack given how easy it is to get hold of the latest versions!

I apologise unreservedly to the BBC the page has been updated, much better and a handy film clip to boot.

However, the plot further down the page is still 3-4 weeks out of date.
Annoyingly, the 'cryosphere today' web site is down today.
