North pole turns an alarming shade of green

OK it is a false colour image. However green indicates only 60% ice cover. Then again this satellite can be confused by melt water on the surface of the sea ice.
In all it indicates very warm weather at the pole for the time of year.

Greenland is currently very cold for this time of year, so cold that a lot of scientists just heading out there are facing -20C when they were expecting ~0C.
