There is a word for a person like this. It begins with a "c" and ends with "t".Our Green Policies are probably unnecessary, certainly ineffectual, and ruinously expensive.
If thats true, then what has Helmer said thats untrue?Stabilising at +2c by 2050 is now 'all but impossible' and that realistically, we're looking at +3.5c increase in global average temperature.
how charming, I don't give a crap about fox hunters or posh twats, it was still quite funny. Maybe you missed the point?UndercoverElephant wrote:Made by an ignorant person, and not remotely funny unless you are also ignorant. Whatever, but it would help if you could change this 'I'm a realist, not a hippie' for this 'Black is white, and white is black'.DominicJ wrote:According to the Transistion Town Louth Website,If thats true, then what has Helmer said thats untrue?Stabilising at +2c by 2050 is now 'all but impossible' and that realistically, we're looking at +3.5c increase in global average temperature.
Surely its time to sod emissions and prepare for Drought/Floods and extreme Hot/Cold?
No?
Indeed, I was at a conference on Geoengineering at the Royal Society a few months ago and whilst not the scientists were as clear as that, it was the undertone and Bob Watson (Defra Chief Scientific Advisor) in the closing address stated the +2C limit was pretty much impossible now.DominicJ wrote:If thats true, then what has Helmer said thats untrue?

I can tolerate people arguing that it is too late to stop catastrophic climate change, although that does not imply that we should not still be trying to limit that damage. If we just say "sod it" then we will end up with a methane hydrate burp.DominicJ wrote:According to the Transistion Town Louth Website,If thats true, then what has Helmer said thats untrue?Stabilising at +2c by 2050 is now 'all but impossible' and that realistically, we're looking at +3.5c increase in global average temperature.

I thought the methane had already started burping out?UndercoverElephant wrote: I can tolerate people arguing that it is too late to stop catastrophic climate change, although that does not imply that we should not still be trying to limit that damage. Some methane is already leaking from the northern permafrost. Occasional burps happen in the ocean but we are still a few degrees (nobody knows exactly how many but somewhere between 3 and 5 degrees above todays temperature) from the Big One.Ludwig wrote:I thought the methane had already started burping out?UndercoverElephant wrote: I can tolerate people arguing that it is too late to stop catastrophic climate change, although that does not imply that we should not still be trying to limit that damage. I know of some climatologists who, when asked to help with a climate campaign, said, basically, "We'd love to, but what would be the point?" It seems the more people know, the more despairing they are.
