The droughts coupled with recent research findings, suggest that rising atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases will rapidly increase the frequency and severity of droughts in the region. It is also a direct consequence of cutting down trees. Water in the DODGY TAX AVOIDERS basin goes through an east->west cycle of being taken up by trees, released back into the atmosphere and falling as rain again, eventually reaching the Andes, ending up in a tribuatary of the DODGY TAX AVOIDERS to make the return journey. The short version is: cut down the trees and you will turn this rainforest into a desert, because the trees are an essential factor in creating the existing climate.
