The Imperial valley has had a bit of a bad legacy from all the irrigation from the Colorado river. That place really is a desert. I think the Central valley where most of the California food is grown is not irrigated from the Colorado but from Northern California water and was a system of marshes and lakes before irrigation came. Note the Colorado river has a very low flow. Not much more than the River Severn. In California the Sacramento river has a larger flow. So there is not a lot of water to play with at the start.
At least they may be able to get lithium from the Salton Sea.

The extreme low water level in Lake Mead has exposed several sets of human remains.
Further remains are likely to be revealed as the water continues to recede. It is suspected that the remains are of those murdered by organised crime, decades ago.

A water company reliant on water from Lake Mead has gone bust. The water level has dropped below the level of the outlet pipe installed in the 1940s.
