Nuclear cost get outs

Is nuclear fission going to make a comeback and plug the gap in our energy needs? Will nuclear fusion ever become energetically viable?

Nuclear cost get outs

Post by biffvernon »

A couple of gems on nuclear costings that appeared on my facebook today:
Sahun Chamberlin wrote:UK nuclear PR: See p.3 - amazing list of "factors that could cause results to differ materially from those projected"!! http://t.co/5XzdbYoX
Benjamin McCarron wrote: According to its website, Exelon Corp is the largest US nuclear generator and nuclear accounts for 55% of its generation (not clear if this is generating capacity or prior year actual generation.) Their financial statements can be downloaded from http://www.exeloncorp.com/performance/i ... ports.aspx The Exelon 2011 Form 10K, which is the fourth down on the list, has a list of risk factors - Item 1A RISK FACTORS on page 35. This is a relatively detailed list in my opinion compared to others that I have seen. It starts with financial factors, though things such as commodity price fluctuation may also partly derive from sustainability considerations (resource depletion). It also includes points on the prospect of environmental legislation and separately on climate change legislation. Nuclear specific risks are covered from page 50. Enjoy ;)
