Nuclear power remains far safer than coal. The awful events in Fukushima must not spook governments considering atomic energy, as no new plant will ever be built in a fault zone.

I have not gone nuclear. But, as long as the following four conditions are met, I will no longer oppose atomic energy.

1. Its total emissions – from mine to dump – are taken into account, and demonstrate that it is a genuinely low-carbon option

George believes that growth and our present economic model can continue and will find a way so to do. He told me so, in answer to a question, at the AECB AGM at CAT last October. That colours his judgement somewhat.
