If rational argument fails, try personal abuse. Try it on physics forum where the discussion on Fukushima is about 4000 posts long http://www.physicsforums.com/showthread ... 0&page=250
There was a very cheery newsreader on BBC Radio 4 this afternoon announcing that TEPCO hoped to stop the radiation leakage in nine months, as if that was good news.

It's a real news gathering challenge. How do you report a slow moving disaster in an interesting and lively way?
Over to our junior correspondent unpaid intern, Tarqin Smythe-Posonby, reporting from the very edge of the 200 km exclusion zone in Takasaki. Earnest and eager for paid BBC employ, but with not terribly much new to report, while overlooking a fairly irradiated frozen field. Over to you, Tarquin...

Hey, Candy,RenewableCandy wrote:TMI was a damnsight tamer than this...otherwise it, too, would have been classified as a "7", n'est-ce pas?
And try not to be so patronising, it lowers the tone.
Especially like the ironic juxtaposition of n'est-ce pas with the patronising complaint! Reminiscent of 'Pretentious, Moi?' - attributed to Miss Piggy I believe. But at least ze Inspector should be fluent in French.

Japanese unhappy with government crisis response - poll
A majority of people in Japan disapprove of the government's handling of the nuclear crisis at the crippled Fukushima plant, opinion polls suggest.
The plant's operator Tepco has said it expects to bring the crisis under control by the end of the year.
But the polls, published in three national newspapers, suggest that Japanese people are losing patience.

Er, it's conventional to describe the wind by where it's coming from not where its going to, as in North wind doth blow and we shall have so and what will the robin do then poor thing.
So the Tuesday's forecast is for an ENE wind and heavy rain, giving Tokyo a dousing of caesium 137.
I think if I was in Tokyo I soon wouldn't be.

TEPCO have sent in the robots
In other developments TEPCO plan to limit the spread of radioactive dustRemote-controlled robots have detected high levels of radiation inside the reactor buildings at the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.
The plant operator, Tokyo Electric Power Company, on Monday released radiation data and photos taken by the US-made robots. The company conducted the survey using the robots on Sunday and Monday.

A little bit late if the weather forecast for Japan this week is correct...The operator of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant will spray a chemical hardening agent around the damaged plant to prevent the migration of radioactive dust and soil.
Tokyo Electric Power Company says it will begin spraying the polymer emulsion on top of debris near the plant's reactor buildings starting on Tuesday next week. It has been test-spraying the emulsion since April 1st.

Don't know if this has been posted before : http://japanstatus.org/
There's plenty of links to follow then for both official and 'crowdsourced'/independant radiation readings.
