Acceptability of TEQs by the general population

Post by gemel22 »

Hello All,

Has research been done on what are the levels of acceptability or what are the key resistance areas of TEQs by the general population ?

I am doing research on the acceptability of air travel quotas and would like to draw parallels with TEQs

Would appreciate any information

Thanks

Did you try to get in touch with Shaun Chamberlin (scroll down to just above 'About Shaun' for his email link)?

Shaun worked closely with the late Dr. Fleming on TEQs. If anyone knows, he will. :)

Your research sounds interesting. Keep us here posted. Air travel quotas sound like a great start (although in practice as likely as TEQs - i.e. never in the current corporate paradigm).

Hi gemel22, thanks for posting your query through the forum, so that others can benefit from it.

In answer to your question, yes, a great deal of research has been done on this topic, both by independent academics/institutions and as part of the UK government's feasibility study. The findings have been remarkably consistent - in summary, TEQs/PCT are preferred to alternative climate policies due to being seen as fairer and more effective. The big barrier is resistance to climate policy in general.

For more detail, and references to the various studies that have been undertaken, see the 'Public Acceptability' section (from p.14 onwards) of this draft academic paper, which is currently passing through peer review.

Links to many of the referenced papers can be found here.

All the best,
Shaun
