We're getting 6.4kWhp installed today, with grid connection. We're keeping it simple, no batteries for now: we'll add them at a later date. Several panels need optimisers because of the shape of the roof.
I predict we'll consume everything the panels produce.

Re: New PV system
My 4KWp system generated 27kwh in one day last month. Slightly less than ideal roof direction. Can you absorb 5 to 6 KW continuously for a few hours? A battery helps enormously to balance supply and demand over 24 to 48 hours. If you get a feed in tariff for excess production then fine, but in the UK the rates are mostly far from generous. With a 10 KWh battery (and a 55kwh ev to charge) we have consumed 81% of our production in the last month.

Re: New PV system
I suspect we'll soon be adding batteries. I want to see how we get on first, get to understand things. We consume very little at night, apart from fridge and freezer, both of which are the most efficient we could find at time of purchase.
Feed-in tariffs in Ireland vary from none to quite generous. Usually the cheapest suppliers give the worst tariffs and we've opted for the cheapest supplier! There you go.
