Do feed-in tariifs now justify a PV system?
In the face of the coming energy problems, do feed-in tariifs now justify a PV system?

Re: Do feed-in tariifs now justify a PV system?
I don't think feed in tariffs have ever justified my system here in Oz but I think my system benefits the planet and I can heat or cool my place during the day knowing I am generating my own power.
I would have thought that if you are after a feed in tariff you will be grid connected and therefore when the grid goes down your PV system will fail to function unless you get a battery. I expect a power cut in the UK will occur in early evening just after sunset when PV will not be generating anyway.

G'Day cobber!

FIT hasn't been available for a while now. All you get is a wholesale payment of around 5p per unit. And the system needs to be installed by an accredited person.

Still worthwhile IMHO in most circumstances. Electricity is getting more expensive and generating some of your own is therefore becoming more attractive.
Both the PV modules and the grid tie inverters are cheaper than in the past.
Grid tie PV is also an INDIRECT doom prep. Although NOT giving any protection against power cuts, simple possession of several KW of PV modules could be very valuable in a TEOTWAWKI situation. They could be re-purposed for battery charging or perhaps other purposes.
