Is Solar Power going to give the UK the energy it needs for the 21st century?

I'm very impressed with you guys. I've just generated 2200 since the end of last August. How long have you people been going? I wonder what figure you'd have if you included all the KwH you haven't taken from the grid.

Erm look carefully at the numbers. You generated your first MWh when you passed 1000 kWh

I'm looking into the "rent a roof" scheme of my energy supplier. I would have to leave the panels on the house for 25 years and 3 months, and get all the electricity that I can use. Since I am at home most of the time, I think I can get a lot of value out of it.

Anyone else signed up for this type of thing? I've got the survey in a couple of weeks.

I Have also took the plunge too :P after weeks of research & quotes

The best System on offer was

a 3.95Kw Samsung with SMA 4000TL and Mointoring system

Fully Fitted For just over 11K the first few quotes I had where upto 17k

so my advice is get quotes & then some more

Welcome to PowerSwitch, MikeTV. £11k for 3.95kWp. That's £2.78 per Wp. I paid £3.59 last summer after shortlisting all the quotes that came in under £4. Maybe under £3 is the new target to aim below. Obviously the cheaper one goes the more cautious one might be about competence of the supplier but I'm not sure there's much correlation between price and cowboyism.

Welcome MikeTV and keep us posted as to how your system performs. And anything else we might be interested in of course. 8)

I'm having a survey done tomorrow by HomeSun. Probably. Three people have phoned me, half confirming the date and half to arrange the survey. Yes, that includes one person who phoned (twice) to arrange a survey after I had already agreed a survey date with him! Either they are very busy or just very disorganised.

Thanks for all the info here. I'll be getting at least 2 other quotes if I decide to progress this after tomorrow.

I doubt we qualify under the rent-a-roof schemes and, if my life frees up, I would probably want to move and more than likely within 10 years, so I am questioning the merit of having solar PV, considering issues like future electricity prices and added-value to the house price.
I'm hippest, no really.

A sizeable part of the recent hike in electricity prices has been caused by the renewables payments. It's not sensible to accept these price rises without questioning their impact upon the economic well-being of the UK.
